In science fiction, jet packs let people zoom through the air at high speeds. Discover the science and technology behind what it would take to make a real-life jet pack!
Is sci-fi tech just a fantasy, or could it be real? This series seeks to answer that question in a concrete way by discussing the technology required to build contraptions like a time machine or a flying car. The text also analyzes whether or not we currently have that capability. For some tech (hoverboards and jet packs), bulky or inadequate options already exist. For other items, like energy blades and deflector shields, the theoretical possibility is there, but no one has yet come up with a way to make it happen. For the really out there inventions, like time machines and invisibility cloaks, these may be objects innovators forever dream of but never actualize. These well-written books will excite fans of summer blockbusters. The encouraging tone, ample illustrations and photos, and inspiring message are great. VERDICT -Exciting first purchases.--Abby Bussen, Muskego Public Library, WI "School Library Journal"
