C. S. Forester (1899-1966) was a British historical novelist best known for his 'Hornblower' series set in the Napoleonic wars. He received the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for two of his books in 1938. He worked as a journalist in the Spanish Civil War and wrote propaganda for the Allies during World War II. His final Hornblower book was not published until 1967, a year after his death.
