And then, against all the odds, Darren won the 2011 Open at the age of 42.Darren Clarke's career began a long way from the glamour of the major tournaments, when he worked as a caddie for his father. Since then he has enjoyed a brilliant career, playing in five Ryder Cup tournaments for the European team, four of which were on the winning side.Darren Clarke was born in Dungannon, Northern Ireland in 1968. Darren turned professional in 1990. Clarke was appointed OBE in the 2012 New Year Honours for services to golf. Darren lives in Northern Ireland with his two sons, Tyrone and Conor, and his wife Alison.
