David Squires is a Sydney-based artist and illustrator. His work has featured prominently in a wide range of publications, from the Guardian to Pickles magazine. His work focuses on football and his hilarious comics and detailed illustrations cast a critical eye on the beautiful game. His first book, The Illustrated History of Football, was published in 2016. This is his second book.

Football was invented as a means for people to have something to talk to their dads about. From these humble beginnings, the sport grew to become a global obsession. Just look around the rest of the books in the charity shop bargain bin and you'll see at least a dozen footballer's autobiographies. The sport is now at its zenith and is contested by some of the world's finest oligarchs.
