Lyle's series of thrillers featuring Wiggins, once one of Sherlock Holmes's Baker Street Irregulars, are coming on splendidly . . . Skilfully mixing real history with action sequences worthy of Lee Child, this is historical crime-writing at its best John Williams, Mail on Sunday
Full throttle, highly entertaining historical hokum, delivering entertainment in spades Myles McWeeney, Irish Independent
Lyle's unique blend of real history, inventive storytelling and characters borrowed from Conan Doyle is exhilarating... an action packed historical thriller... This is a series I hope will run and run New Books Magazine
The third outing in H.B. Lyle's engaging series of historical thrillers... The story rattles along at pace, the characters are engaging and the fight scenes burst with action. But Lyle's great strength is in his depiction of time and place; from its stinking tenements, where babies cry from hunger, to its sinister docks and upmarket brothels, the Edwardian city - then still part of Britain - is brought to life in all its squalid, magnificent glory Financial Times
A bruising, gritty and very entertaining adventure amid the slums and salons of 1912 Dublin, a city about to explode Ed O'Loughlin
Impressive period detail and sharp dialogue add charm to the strong plot Daily Mail (on The Irregular)
