John and Jane are out walking when they spy a lovely, juicy pear high up in a pear tree. They fetch a ladder and Jane climbs to the top, only to fly through the air into a pond when John can't hold the ladder steady. Eventually, with the help of a sleeping bird, they manage to reach the pear and to share it happily.

Another original Pamela Allen book to share with the very young. As with her award-winning Who Sank the Boat?, there is something for all of us to learn from this simple but amusing story of John and Jane's attempts to pick a pear from the pear tree.
Pamela Allen was born in New Zealand where she studied art and became a secondary school teacher. She began illustrating books when her youngest child started school. She won the Australian Picture Book of the Year Award two years running - for WHO SANK THE BOAT? and BERTIE AND THE BEAR. Pamela now lives in Sydney.
