This book follows the 230 miles of the Fosse Way that spears straight through the heart of England, telling the history of the towns and cities that grew up along the Roman road, and describing the wildlife to be found in nature reserves and green spaces along the route as the seasons change. About the Author

Rick Thompson worked for BBC News for 27 years as a reporter, then senior editor at the regional, national and international levels. A lifelong birdwatcher, he wrote a regular column for the Countryside magazine and for four years was a member of the Governing Council of the RSPB. He has been asked to moderate many European conferences on the environment, sustainable energy, biodiversity and climate change. The pictures of wildlife on the cover and chapter headings in this book are his own artwork.

His previous books have been 'Park Life' - the wildlife of an urban park, and 'A River Avon Year', describing the wildlife and history of Shakespeare's Avon from it's source to the Severn.
