10 year old Jada Sly is an artist and a spy-in-training. When she isn't studying art from her idols like Jackie Ormes, the first known African-American cartoonist, she's chronicling her spy training and other observations in her art journal.

Back home in New York City after living in France for five years, Jada's ready to embark on her first and greatest spy adventure ever yet. She plans to scour New York City in search of her mother. Her mom must have been a spy too, and is hiding from bad guys in New York City. Jada can feel it in her bones.

Critic Reviews

“Praise for Jada Sly , Artist & Spy : "[A] fast-paced, fun novel."-- School Library Connection”

Praise for the President series: A Children's Indie Next pick

* "Thought-provoking and smart and a great springboard for discussions on race and class." --Kirkus Reviews, starred review

"Winston's humorous prose captures the spirited preteen voice of an honors student with sass, quick wit, and great ideas.... A whip-smart, funny, and fast-paced outing equally suited to returning fans and readers who are just meeting Brianna for the first time." --Kirkus Reviews

"Brianna's determination and follow-through make her a great role model, but the true value here is the very real depiction of the ebb and flow of middle-school friendships and the difficulties that come with growing up. An important resource for anyone who's ever been in Brianna's shoes." --Booklist

"A sweet confection for middle graders...will be a hit with readers who like Wendy Mass and Lauren Myracle." --Booklist

Praise for Jada Sly, Artist & Spy: "[A] fast-paced, fun novel."--School Library Connection
"In this easygoing, fast-reading narrative, Jada is a determined young spy-in-training who would give an adolescent James Bond a run for his money."--BCCB
"Jada Sly: she's smart, she's fun."--School Library Journal
"Jada's family history and her interest in art are memorable. A beginner thriller with some real gems in it."--Kirkus Reviews
"Winston has created a spunky character in Jada, a fashionable artist and independent girl who isn't afraid to take on a few adults in the search for the truth."--Booklist
