Description

Every child is born a physical, emotional and spiritual being. As parents and caregivers, it is our role to nurture these qualities and help young people mature into confident embodied adults and responsible custodians of our communities, economies and the Earth. But as the scaffolding of the old world has crumbled, we know that many members of Gen Z are experiencing anxiety, depression, addiction and even suicidality at epidemic levels.

We want our children to grow up in an environment where they feel safe, loved, and can enjoy a deep sense of belonging. The sensitive, the open-hearted and empathetic ones are the most affected and these are the very people we need most in society.

With contributions and timely solutions from leading scientists, doctors, inspirational teachers, visionaries and wisdom holders from varying traditions, the stories of hope in UN:Stuck offer guidance that will help our children mature into confident embodied adults packed with empathy, curiosity and a real sense of playfulness. The chapter titles in this book are rungs on a ladder of hope: Awakened Awareness, Emotional/Ethical intelligence, Interrelatedness (Ukama), Ethical Activism, Meaning & Purpose, Resilience/Courage/Curiosity, Creativity and Inclusion/The Whole Being.

The result is a truly 360 vision of how we can support our young people, based on storytelling and wisdom in a way that reconnects them at a fundamental level with their world and seeds hope for the future.

Critic Reviews

Un:Stuck is inclusive, collaborative, expansive & heart-based - a true gem in the pantheon of classics that teach you how to take your life to the next level. davidji, author of 'Sacred Powers'
This remarkable book breaks open our superficial conversations about our young people's struggles. It identifies creative ways to reach young people in their pain and help them find themselves in a world that has lost its way. The author has included a diverse and exciting range of writers who each draw from the wisdom of their own particular cultures and communities. Each chapter is a portal to the truth of what it is that allows us to come alive as human beings and how we can, in turn, make this happen for children and young people we care deeply about. Dr Tony Bates, Clinical Psychologist, Author of 'Breaking the Heart Open: the shaping of a psychologist'
It appears we have an unarticulated movement without a proper name springing up, covering a wide spectrum of thoughts, philosophies and attitudes. The awareness, the awakening, the messages and messengers of change are lining up and in this book, we see these aspects in full view. Onward we must go to rebirth this new humanity, and so let's salute these advocates putting it so eloquently. Through these books of change the collective mood starts to shift. Thank you, Kate, and your co-writers for being the catalysts of something which touches our souls, and the essence of life. Roger Tempest, Custodian, Broughton Sanctuary
There is no group more in need of connection than our children. Between the pandemic and associated lockdown, social media, inequity and more, young people need our help finding a way to a better tomorrow. Kate O'Brien's book serves as a light on a path, one that shows parents, caregivers and young adults themselves, a brighter way forward. In our world, we talk about the importance of connection as the center of health and wellness; Kate's book is an important contribution to that conversation. Nancy A. Davis, Chief Creative Officer and Executive Director, Global Wellness Summit
