Critic Reviews

"Violet is a heroine worth cheering for. A class-crossing romance raises the stakes in this compelling, suspense-filled story, which is based on the experiences of a real-life woman driver who served with the Free French Brigade at Bir Hakeim. Readers will undoubtedly find this and other aspects of World War II history explored in this book fascinating."

--HistoricalNovelSociety.org
"Bowen's flair for creating intriguing characters and emotionally connective storytelling is matched by her ability to construct a top-notch plot (inspired by true life events) that brilliantly distills enthralling historical details, nerve-jangling suspense, and a dollop of cinematic romance (with a dash of dry wit) into an utterly compelling thriller that will have readers captivated."
