Description

A funny, reassuring story about how to deal with worries – perfect for sharing.

Small Stanley wants to be brave and fearless like the superheroes in his books, but Stanley’s world seems to be stuffed with scary things like earwigs and DOGS and the DARK and getting lost and even Santa...

Then Grandad comes to the rescue. “Write a list,” he says, and Stanley does! As Stanley’s list grows bigger and bigger, find out how Grandad, a wild wind and Stanley's friends all help Small Stanley to conquer his fears.

Critic Reviews

"With vibrant illustrations, relatable situations and eye-catching typography, this is a wonderful book to read, share and discuss with younger children and EYFS classes. Highly recommended."

-- Tom Tolkien School Reading List

"This is such a brilliant book for addressing lots of common childhood fears (quite a few of the fears on Stanley’s list resonate with my children)…  It’s a gorgeous story with a wonderful message about overcoming your fears and worries and not being afraid to talk about them with your friends and family...

The illustrations are fabulous: superb sketches filled with vibrant colour and emotion which bring to life the way that Small Stanley is feeling throughout the pages of the story.  A brilliant picture book about dealing with big emotions."

Mini Travellers Magazine

"Angie Morgan’s mixed media illustrations are full of amusing details that both children and adults will appreciate... Her vibrant artwork really brings to life Stanley’s emotions, and the interconnectedness of the words and pictures works splendidly."

Red Reading Hub

"The book is completely charming and is beautifully illustrated by the author... The story is uplifting as it ends and offers readers a short checklist to remind them that worries are completely normal and it’s most important to share them, no matter how big or small.

This story would be perfect to read in a Key Stage One or EYFS classroom; the message fits in well to PSHE themes around confidence or worry, as well as underpinning lessons around personal safety."

Books for Topics

"The interplay between words and pictures in Small Stanley’s Big List of Scary Stuff works well. Different fonts are used to visually represent Small Stanley’s feelings and I can imagine children emulating these ideas when drawing or bookmaking... This book could be used for reading aloud or as part of PSHE provision in Early Years and KS1."
