Back Cover

Design my Privacy addresses an issue typical for our time. Whether by email, WhatsApp, Facebook or Instagram - today we communicate all day long. And then there are the countless apps available via Apple App Store or Google Play Store, designed to make our everyday Jives better and more efficient all the time. But with every little thing we do using modern technology, we transmit data to commercial companies and public authorities. And with the advent of the Internet of Things, this data flow grows bigger by the day. Privacy has therefore become an essential issue to address. Government agencies can endlessly debate the best legislation to regulate today's technologica! innovations, but are generally left bewildered in their wake. And what about us? We the consumers, who eagerly adopt all the latest gadgets, smartphones and apps, but barely stop to think about how privacy-related matters impact our own Jives? This needs to change. So it's about time that the data specialists and data designers start to understand each other. Design my Privacy is a wake-up call directed at designers and engineers, and in fact the entire public. Why has it become normal for us to lead our Jives without seriously thinking about privacy? This book offers a clear overview of today's privacy issues, and calls on designers and creators of tomorrow's media technology to put privacy squarely on the agenda. Privacy isn't just a theme of our time, but is a ticking time bomb that urgently demands new solutions. The time is now, in short, to prioritise privacy as a pivotal concern for design.
