American writer Jack Kerouac (1922-1969) was heavily influenced by the jazz music of the 1940s, his "spontaneous prose" defining the literary style of the Beat Generation. Kerouac's On the Road (1957), considered the defining work of the Beats, was formed in a series of spiral-bound notebooks he took with him on his travels. In the notebook entry on this back cover, Kerouac writes poetically about the inner music, beat and rhythm that exists within us all. Inspired by On the Road, digital illustrator Dominic(Nic) Ferrari created the design featured on our front cover. Focusing on the music depicted in the novel, it is the perfect way to highlight Kerouac's own writing on the back.
